Small businesses with greater than 4 employees need to be ready to start reporting through single touch payroll by 30 September 2019. Reports need to be lodged following each pay run.
If you have less than 4 employees, there is an exemption available that allows you to report quarterly (instead of after each pay run). You must be ready to report by the due date of the September business activity statement (28 October if you lodge it yourself or 25 November if you lodge through an agent).
Closely held employees (i.e. related parties) have an exemption from STP reporting until 1 July 2020.
